Beskrivelse: This is probably last winters Crested Honey Buzzard returning for its second winter in Eilat, now in adult female plumage. Apart from what can be seen in the pictures we only noted that the bird felt unusually big for a European Honey Buzzard and had broad wings when it flew short distances between the palms. Is it possible to tell what species it is from the pictures? Is the throat pattern possible for a European Honey Buzzard? Any comments would be most appreciated!
Beskrivelse: This bird does not fit anything I've seen on my previous trips to Israel, eastern Turkey, Georgia or Kuwait. Grey-orange belly, black breast, grey back and large white wing-panel. Any suggestions?
Beskrivelse: Distant shot of a male. We were surprised by the overall grey appearance of the birds. They almost totally lacked the reddish tones around head and throat that are shown in litterature. Note also that the legs are orange, not yellow.
Beskrivelse: Distant shot of a displaying male to the right and a somewhat duller coloured female to the left. Note the grey head and neck on the bird to the left with only a slight tinge of brown on the lower neck.
Yoav Perlman (firstname.lastname@example.org) can show you this species. In one hour we saw and heard four different birds. The cooperative individual on the picture was photographed at late dusk with 2 s shutter speed.
