Definitely a dark-throated female and not a male. As mentioned in the Collins Guide some females appear "almost as dark-throated as males" when worn, and since the photo is taken in January, the abrasion is almost 6 months on. The same guide also establishes that 1.winter males only differ from adults by their juvenile remiges and retrices. Best regards Peter
