In the 2nd edition of Collins Bird Guide (Fugle i Felten / Fågelguiden), the Steppe Grey Shrike is lumped and once again regarded as a subspecies of Great Grey Shrike. This is, according to reports, basically based on genetic similarities with the Great Grey.
Personally, I wouldn't regard pallidirostris as nothing but a different species. I suppose many of those with live experience of the species does agree...
Helt enig, David.
Komplekset virker i "Fågelguiden" behandlet noget ufærdigt.

Beskrivelse: This little fellow and a Steppe Grey Shrike associated with each other, a phenomenon which also is know to occur between Desert Wheatears and Desert Warblers.
Yes, just multiply the scope magnification with the focal length of the camera lens.
Digiscoping using an SLR - how do you obtain correct focus?
Manually?
Using live-view contrast detection?
B.r. Stig.
PS. Nica photos from Oman.
Ok, thanks! Didn't know it was that easy. :-) That will say, 39 mm through 25x eyepiece is corresponding to 975 mm. Impressive!
Well, obtaining the focus isn't that easy. The AF doesn't work when the camera lens is docked to the eyepiece, so you simply have to use the scope's focusing mechanism. Apparently, the rate of sharp images will be higher when using the Live View function instead of the optical viewfinder. The resolution of the TFT-screen is so good that it's way easier to use than i.e. the screen on the old Coolpix compacts.
I suppose that the rate of sharp images will be even higher if you use an adapter, to center the cam lens in front of the exit pupil of the eyepiece.

Beskrivelse: Record shot. Soaring together with an adult individual, a pale morph juv Booted Eagle and an adult Imperial Eagle. Note the overall impression of the shape, reminiscent of an Aquila-species. The first few seconds of brain processing created the impression of an adult Steppe Eagle.
Beskrivelse: Caspian Gull of the form barabensis is the most numerous of Oman's wintering large gulls. Lesser Black-backed Gull of the ssp. heuglini, "Heuglin's Gull", is the second most common. The 1st c.y. individual facing to the right is probably a Heuglin's due to the overall fresher plumage compared to the more worn 1st c.y. Steppe Gulls.
mvh Jens
