Beskrivelse: The adult bird came in at 06:08 p.m. on the evening of 12.10.2017. It stayed probably over night. No sign of it on the previous and the following day. It's the 3rd record for Cape Verde and the 6th for Western Palearctic!
Beskrivelse: 12th record for Germany, but first since 1880! This bird stayed only for one day on the northenmost island in Germany and was therefore seen only by a very limited number of birders.
Beskrivelse: Returning bird (first seen in June 2013 at Molfetta) now among thousands of wintering Black-headed Gulls and back since 28th Nov. 2014. The bird comes every day around midday to a roosting site. On 12th Dec. sadly it stayed only for 2 minutes then departed after having a bath and started preening. Indeed very happy for getting these two record shots!
Beskrivelse: Stunning Cat. C species. On this morning we had four sightings of in total 14 birds (12 males, 2 females) in sexual separated groups. This public forest seems to be an excellent place and is already mentioned by CROZIER (2003) - A birdwatching guide to France north of the Loire - as a good site for this species.
Dear Martin,
Many thanks for a fine photo from Helgoland.
Recently, Henrik Haaning Nielsen's NETFUGL photo 29. March 2013 of Cretzschmar's B. in Egypt was discussed.
An argument for Cretzs. B. was a reference to Svensson's and Beaman's field guides indicating C.'s rusty brownish vent/undertail vs. whitish on Grey-necked B.
Did You or colleagues consider this feature?

Hi Carsten,
I think you mean these pictures http://www.netfugl.dk/pictures.php?id=showpicture&picture_id=54684 which show obviously a Grey-necked Bunting for me. As in this bird the most remarkable features of the Helgoland-bird were the long and fine bill and the lack of a dark breast band, therefore the ID in both cases is finally straightforward in my eyes. Therefore no doubts about Grey-necked Bunting :-)
Kind regards,
Martin
Dear Martin
Many thanks for Your prompt and interesting specific comments.
So, I may add a note to Svensson's text and illustrations of Grey-necked's underparts.
Best regards & smile ,,,,,,,,, C.
Beskrivelse: Adult male. There are probably only two birds (1 male, 1 female) left in Cabo Verde, since a female was found dead in autumn 2012. The resident pair tries to breed again on Curral Velho this season.
Only two birds left in the Old World....certainly bad news.
This could become a historic picture, Martin.
Let's cross our fingers that the pair will have a successful breeding this year.
Best wishes
Erling Krabbe

Beskrivelse: Adult white morph. Bird has some waste on it's left leg. It was sitting at the southern side of Raso in the breeding cliffs between the Brown Boobys.
