Beskrivelse: Endemic to North-Australia. And not 'very' common.
To me the 'attitude & expresion' of this bird did not fit well with the drawings in the field guides. Birds of Australia shows a 'sparrow-like ground active, compact bird' but reality was an active, slender bird much of the time with the tail raised in a wren-like way. Low in the vegetation, but not seen on the ground. So ID was not so obvious as one would imagine considering the distinct color pattern. Not a 'once in a life-time bird' to twitch; but on the other hand I will never forget this first meeting with BSR :-)

Beskrivelse: Seen in open woodland near Fitzroy River.
Subspecies is not clear since birds from this area shows clear intermediate between northern and southern populations of presumably ssp. normani og ssp. melanops - since undertail coverts are not pure black or white - but shows a 'mix' - look at the other uploaded picture. 'Birds of Australia' calls the mix of ssp. a 'hybrid'.
