Beskrivelse: A rare and rather difficult species to see in Gambia. The best place to see this species is to my knowledge in the mangroves at Tendaba from a boat-cruise. On our boat-cruise that produced an astonishing 13 species of herons/egrets this bird was the only White-backed Night Heron we saw. The other species were Goliath Heron, Grey Heron, Black-necked Heron, Purple Heron, Great White Egret, Intermediate Egret, Little Egret, Western Reef Heron, Squacco Heron, Black Egret, Striated Heron and Black-crowned Night Heron.
