Beskrivelse: Dear friends, I would like to ask you provide these pictures of pipit, caught for ringing at Pape bird station (Latvia) on 15.october 2004, to the specialists or / and birdwatchers, who can separate rock and water pipits in the field. We (Latvian birders) have no expirience with water pipit and we want to know - how you do it and what a species is on the pictures. Thank you all who helped to clinch ID of this pipit. The bird on the picture is a water pipit in winter plumage. This is first or second record of this species in Latvia! An hour ago I received e-mail about the fact that in Zoological museum of Latvian University, according to literature, there should be specimen of water or rock pipit since 1962!
