Is there any at Netfugl who dare to comment if this is in fact one Greater Snow Goose and one Lesser Snow Goose? The blue fase does seem to have a smaller bill and more rounded head!
It appears obvious that the goose in front
- is Smaller
- has relatively a bit shorter bill,
with less black along the mouth
- a bit steeper forehead
- same size head
- and a LONGER NECK!!
than the hind bird.

The two subspeicies are sometimes almost impossible to separate in the field. The two birds do indeed look different in size but a simpler explanation could be that both are Lesser Snow of different sex. The front bird perhaps a small female and the rear one a large male?
The birds are lingering around in north-western Germany (Lower Saxony, various sites) in a big flock of Barnacle Geese since the begin of 2011 at least. They do everything together and I guess that it is male and female, but I think there was not seen any behaviour of display etc. But when feeding, sleeping etc. they stay close to each other and chase any Barnacle, if it is to close.
